John David Baggarley (born 1830 died 1903); was at the Tankard, 178 Walworth Road in 1869; the
Star, 101 Walworth Road in 1871; and owned the
Queen Adelaide, 74 Beckenham Road, Penge from about 1875.
John is at the Horse & Groom,
60 Blackheath Hill in 1900. His brother George is at the Hand in Hand, 37 Arch Street, Newington by 1869; and later at the
King Henry VIII, 35 King Henry Street, Islington by 1881.
John is known to have owned the Queen Adelaide from circa 1875 which he sold sto the Noakes Brewery in November 1882 for the sum of £2,200.00. However as part of the sale he leased the pub for 31 years for a rent of £84.00 per annum. Research however shows he did not stay in residence as the 1891 census shows one Arthur Clark as publican living with his family. It appears John had sub-let the Queen Adelaide to Arthur Clark as he is known to have been publican at the Horse & Groom in 1900. ***
