According to the newsletter for the Dulwich Society, the Old Greyhound and the Crown were two separate Public Houses which were both demolished before 1900 and replaced with the one, i.e. the Crown & Greyhound. The Greyhound Inn, Dulwich Village, built 1720 as the King's Head - name changed in the 1760s to the Greyhound Inn, pulled down in 1897 after the construction of the Crown and Greyhound opposite. **

The Walsall Advertiser 15/10/1898: The old Greyhound Inn at Dulwich has been
demolished. Soon the ground on which it stood, and the field where many a
merry gathering has been held, will be covered over with rows of trim
villas. The Greyhound was one of the four famous inns in Dulwich and was
kept in the hands of one family for more than one hundred years. The Dulwich
club, established in 1772, met at the Greyhound. It was a society mostly of
literary men, formed for convivial intercourse. During its life the club
entertained Dr Glennie, Campbell, Dickens, Thackeray, Mark Lemon, and many
other celebrities. **
