Directory
Leonard Arthur John FRANKS (1910 - 1988) was the great grandson of James Robert Bullen, beer
retailer of 228
Devonshire Street (Red Lion) in circa 1879 - 1886. *
August 24th 1978 / The retirement of Len & Dolly Franks at the end of 18
years at the Duke of Abercorn. Len and Dolly, married 50 years, were
presented with a clock by the regulars in "The Duke" which will be pulled
down shortly to make way for the new Palace Gardens shopping precinct. Len
Franks was well known in the world of music, an accomplished violinist at
the age of 16. Later a saxaphone and clarinet professional. After 23 years,
they took over the Dorset Arms, Clapham Road. Two years later they moved to
Kent, and then onto the Crown, in Southgate. Five years later they
transferred to the Duke of Abercorn in Sydney Road. *
