On 5 October 1891 Daniel Junior and his younger brother Bertie (not mentioned in the 1891 census), were removed from St Pauls Prep School, Hackney, due to the family moving to "the country", so that is presumably when Daniel vacated the Goring Arms. Both boys addresses at the time were 24 Broadway. Daniel was enrolled at St Pauls on 2nd June 1890, and Bertie on 4th May 1891, so Daniel Senior was the publican at the Goring Arms from at least 2nd June 1890 to 5th October 1891. ***

Daniel Senior. had been a private in the Gordon Highlanders, hence the different places of birth of his children. He completed his military career in 1881, and was the publican in at least three pubs after that: The Goring Arms, the Lord Clyde by 1895, and another one in Reading, Berkshire, which is no longer there. His address in 1911 was 24 Great Knollys St, Reading, Berks., which is a couple of doors away from the present day Queens Arms pub. ***

Daniel's son James, was living at the Castle, 28 Castle Street, Reading, Berkshire by 31 March 1901 and also in the 1911 Census. In the second quarter of 1894 James had married Annie Elizabeth Cornwell in Islington. His first children James, Mabel, and Ernest were born in Middlesex in 1894, 1896, and 1898 respectively. His remaining children from 1900 onward were born in Reading. ***

Sadly his sons Daniel Junior and Bertie were killed in WW1 in 1914. ***
