My mother and father, Thomas and Margaret Randall, were licensees of the Fountain, Deptford Broadway,  just after I was born in 1948. I was staying with my aunts in another pub, The Bull at Birchwood, Kent whilst my parents moved in and got established. Mum had been associated with pubs from an early age thanks to her two uncles who started them off in the trade. I moved home to The Fountain at around the age of four or five and we lived there for some during which I contracted TB having caught it from an inmate of Carrington House lodgings next door.  *+

I was in hospital for some time and we eventually moved to the Victoria Tavern, Isleworth. My parents retired from the pub business in the early seventies and moved to a comfortable home in Twickenham. *+
