Old Welsh Harp, The Broadway, West Hendon NW9

Hendon pub history index

This pub may have been established as the Harp & Horn by 1751 and was present as the Welsh Harp by 1803. The reservoir built alongside became known as the Welsh Harp Reservoir by around 1850, although this has never been its official name. In 1866, this is the Old Welsh Harp Tavern & Kingsbury Fishery. From 1870 to 1903 there was also a Welsh Harp railway station on the line to St Pancras that was named after this pub (or possibly named after the reservoir ). Listed as at Edgware Road in 1926. The pub was demolished in around 1970 to make way for the southerly extension of the M1 motorway. It was also known as the Lower Welsh Harp and for a brief time in the 1850s as the Irish Harp. **
