This pub was established on the Heath by 1713. Address is Hampstead Heath in early 1900s. It was rebuilt after Wartime bombing and has closed recently and undergone conversion to private residential use. **
The pub was named after Jack Straw one of the leaders of the Peasant's Revolt of 1381, who is said to have hidden nearby when the revolt failed, until he was captured and executed.
The first photograph shows the damage caused by a land mine on 19th March 1941. The pub was partially demolished after this but stayed open.
The second photo is c1950 and shows the truncated pub. It remained in this state until it was completely demolished and rebuilt in 1964. ***
