Enfield and Public Houses - Six Licenses referred.
The adjourned applications for renewal were in respect of the Pike and Anchor, Ponders End ; Cricketers Arms, Chase Side ; The Harrow, Turkey street; The Prince of Wales, Parsonage lane ; The Sultan beerhouse, New road, Ponders End ; The Swan, Ponders End, and The Woodman, Baker street.
The Woodman. The licensee was Frederick Gatland, who was a yearly tenant of Messrs Pryor, Reid and Co, brewers of Hatfield. Within the 440 yard radius there were six licences. The house was old, but in good repair, and the people who used it were of the respectable working class.
Inspector Twigg stated that the licence had been transferred three times in seven years. The supervision was good. The licensee had been convicted for permitting drunkenness, and the house had since improved, and was now well conducted.
The renewal of the licence was referred.
By 1911 census, James John Charles Atkinson is a shopkeeper at 1 Market place.
