The List of Masonic Lodges of 1740 - 1755 note that a masonic lodge met at the Bear, Leman street, Goodmans Fields with a constitution date of February 18th 1754.
This pub was present before 1793 and was re-built in 1830. At 89 Leman Street in 1839, 1841 and 1848; and at 77 Leman Street in 1856 & 1871 census. Still open in 2018.

I believe that this was the pub my great grandfather helped with a friend to run around 1911. He was not living with his family at the time as he lived in the pub and would send them some wages home to forest gate for the family.
Apparently there used to be a photo of him stood outside this pub in an apron and bowler hat, but this has been mislaid somewhere. As he worked with a friend there we don't believe he was the landlord. My great grandfather was called William Franklin. ***
