This pub was present by 1810. At 20 Leman Street in 1856; The pub is believed to have been built in its present form in the 1840s. Your records of Charles Calton/Catton here in 1839 and 1840 are interesting and suggest there may have been a former pub of the same name on this site or that the building is older than it looks. I have notes that Sarah King was landlady by 1911 and was still landlady in 1929 (the latter per Post Office Directory) It changed its name to Bar Bed in 2002. This pub closed in 2008, but has now reopened under the name ‘Zeppelin Shelter’ (2006). ** Still open for business in 2018, as the Black Horse.

I am researching the HYAMS family, and a Sarah HYAMS married Henry "Harry"
King in 1894. They were the publicans of the
Pewter Platter, 11
White Lion Street, Norton Folgate, London, according to the 1901 Census. By
1911 the family was living at 40 Leman Street - the Black Horse. ***
