This is not the same pub as the Prince of Orange in Artillery Row. Palmer’s Village was effectively cleared away when Victoria Street was built in 1850-1, and its street pattern no longer exists. The pub, by the 1840s, was tied to the Artillery Brewery owned by Joseph Carter Wood (taken over by Watney’s in 1891 and closed down soon after). Mr Wood seems to have built the Artillery Row one as a replacement. The earliest record I have for this pub is in November 1814. The landlord in June 1830 was a Mr Skinner, according to a news item in the Morning Chronicle. *
