The first meeting of a group of sixteen surveyors to consider the formation of a society took place at the Shakespeare Tavern, Russell Street, Covent Garden on March 8th 1792. The rules of the Club were set out at a subsequent meeting on May 2nd 1792. Up to March 1794 the meetings were held every month at the Shakespeare Tavern. /../Records held at the Westminster Archives
