St George in East Index

The Red Lion existed as early as 1815 according the sun fire records of Thomas Hemingway. At 155 Old Gravel lane in 1869 & earlier. The 1811 entry from the Holdens directory presumes that the address is at 155 Old Gravel lane at this time, Hemingway is not listed in this directory; and the later entries for him note the name of the pub he has moved to at that stage.

The address is at 34 Old Gravel lane until 1938, and changes to 34 Wapping Lane by 1944. It sits between Bostock street and Johnson street junctions.
