Poplar pub history index
Existed from at least 1871. At the junction with Union Road, and sometimes listed as Union Road. Union Road is renamed as Mellish Street by 1944. * Note: Officially, this pub was more usually named The Union (that's on the sign in the attached photo, but the name Union Tavern is on the card). Locals usually called it The Pin (& Cotter). Address is confusing too. Postal address was 102 West Ferry road, but it was some yards up a narrow road which was an extension of (and named) Mellish street, Sometimes also named as Union road. **
