My grandparents, Patrick Maloney and Louise Maloney, were publicans here
from 1972 to 1999. He was a tenant for Allied Breweries from 1972 to
1993. From 1993 he boughtthe pub, and it became a free house. He then
changed the name of the pub from African Tavern to African Queen (named
after the film). Max Bygraves also recorded many of his war songs in the pub
including 'run rabbit run'. The Pub had some great history, and was a real
East End pub. *
