To the best of my knowledge, the pub was bombed out in 1941; my grandparents had it at that time and were immediately offered another pub in Poplar which was also bombed the night after they sent their stuff over there. *

My grandfather died in 1941, having been sent to work in a factory to which he had to cycle every day in all weathers. He caught pneumonia and died within weeks, of pneumococcal septicaemia. Penicillin would have saved him, but it was being kept back for the forces. *
