Poplar pub history index
This was built in 1807, initially as an excise office and only later becoming a tavern, converted to pub use in 1846 as the Jamaica Tavern.
Name changed to Jamaica Hotel in 1899.Licence not renewed in 1926 when police were clamping down on the opium trade in the area and it subsequently became the Dock Manager's offices when acquired by the Port of London Authority. History has gone full circle and it is now a restaurant and cellar bar since 1992. The current name and address is: Dockmasters Restaurant & Cellar Bar, West India Dock Gate, 1 Hartsmere Road, E14
