My great grandfather, on my mother’s side, Mitchell Roberts, was licensee of the Red Lion, Shooters Hill and in the 1901 census, the 'Guy, Earl of Warwick, Welling'. According to your site, in 1874, the licensee of the Earl of Warwick, Woolwich was Jane Richardson. I think she was nee Jane Linnington, aunt of Mitchell Robert’s wife, Mary Ann Linnington. **

My husband’s biological grandfather was William Henry Banister - we know he was landlord of the Red Lion in the 1939 Register and his daughter Helen Kathleen Banister was working with him. *

He was at the Foresters Arms at 35 Walmer Road from about 1917.

He took the license on after 1920 (when he was a tobacconist at 133 Plumstead High Road SE18), and by 1922. In 1925 when his wife Ellen died at 6 Red Lion Place. William is described as a licensed victualler in her death notice. *

William died 4 December 1941 aged 66 and his daughter Helen carried on with the Red Lion - perhaps until she retired. She was born 1899 and died in 1975 at the Licensed Victuallers’ National Home in Denham, Bucks. She never married. *
