My great grandmother was Sarah Jane Blewitt Griffin, her brother was
Benjamin Alipore Griffin; their
father was Israel
Blewitt Griffin. Sarah married Henry E Morgan in 1882 in Paddington. I
have a deed setting up a post nuptial settlement in 1888, which refers to
the " Royal Oak but now called or known by the name or sign of The Bridge
House and being number 213 Upper Kennington Lane". *
After the Bridge House Tavern they went on to own the
Alfreds Head,
Newington Causeway, (Elephant and Castle) which was sold at Auction in 1895
for £50,000 as a leased business (HM continued to own freehold); proceeds of
sale were invested in land, housing development in the Kilburn/Willesden
area where Israel- now retired- lived. *
