New Copenhagen, 244 York Way, Islington N7

Islington index

This is named as the Copenhagen Arms in the 1881 census return, where the address is listed as 7 York Place, York Road (the same address as it is in the 1871 and 1861 censuses), and it is named the Cope in the 1851 census return (where the address is Maiden Lane). It is given as Brandon Road (the intersecting street) in 1882 and earlier directories, and as Belle Isle, Maiden Lane in 1851. However, the address is at 246 York Road in directories by 1891. Not to be confused with Copenhagen House, further to the north along York Road. *
York Road is renamed to York Way between 1938 and 1944. There is a beer retailer at 246 York Road up until 1944 which I am presuming becomes the New Copenhagen. Closed in 2013. ***
