My father John Charles Evans talked of his childhood, moving from pub to pub with his parents. Two of the pubs I’ve noted are The Boston Hotel & The Sun in the Sands; its near the Blackwall Tunnel. His father John Edward Evans died in the cellar there, he was Chairman of The Licensed Victuallers Association in the 1930’s, possibly 1936. We have photos of them at The Connaught Rooms wearing some chain of honour. ***

On October 18th 1916, is the marriage of John Edward Evans, a waiter aged 32, and Alice Sophia Field, aged 31. Her father is James Henry Field, builder, and his is John Evans, publican. Their address is noted as at 55 Bramley road. This is the home address of Alice in 1911 when she lives with her parents.

My dads father, John Edward Evans, married to Alice , I have found my grandmothers driving licence which surprised me ***
