In the 1841 census, my ancestor Robert Howard was the licensed victualler here. Unfortunately the writing is very faint but the first person named is Robert with an age of 40. The pub is named. Robert and this family appear on the 1851 census close by and he is listed as a licensed victualler out of business. Incidentally, it doesn't seem that the publicans stayed very long at this pub. Robert was a licensed publican when he was married in 1830 but I don't know where. Perhaps it could have been this pub? *+
