Herbert Steel was the brother of my Great Grandfather. My Great Grandmother,
by then a widow, took on the tenancy of Herbert's house at 49, Broke Road as
of 1st April 1891 - might we guess that that was when Herbert Steel went to
the "Northumberland Arms" ? Herbert died in July 1895 (he was buried in
Abney Park Cemetery on 19th July 1895) so that would be the end of his
tenancy or ownership. ***
Other family members included Charles Steel whom was at
the "Crown and Castle" in Kingsland Road, and another pub called the "Robert
Peel". His daughters were also in the business. ***
