This pub was probably present by 1593. It closed in around 2004, and was named Maddigan's at the time of closure. There has been much rebuilding and the pub now looks radically different from the 1997 photo. Although re-opening in 2006, under the name Amp, by September 2007 the pub was once again closed and empty.
It now looks to be under conversion to restaurant use. *** As a bar, Maddigan's, this pub closed in December 2013 after a stabbing and has been converted to restaurant use. *
The pub originally had a large forecourt, Mare street was widened circa 1920 and the pub was now on the pavement. It was damaged in WW2 and lost it's top floor. It has now been restored to three stories and is a pub called Heart Of Hackney. **+
