The Fairfield, 330 Glyn Road, Hackney E5

Hackney pub history Index

Glyn Road was renumbered in 1896. In the 1891 census, the Fairfield is shown as 1A Glyn Road; this became no. 330 in 1896, the address I knew it as in the 1950s and 1960s.  *

The Fairfield, 330 Glyn Road, Hackney - circa late 1950s

The Fairfield, 330 Glyn Road, Hackney - circa late 1950s

The first photo is one taken from the front garden of my prefab in Millfields Road and shows the entrance to Clapton Greyhound Stadium to the left with the Faifield in the centre. This was probably taken late 1950s and, as you can see, the Fairfield was derelict then. I'm not sure when it stopped trading.

Nye Bevan Estate, Glyn Road, Hackney - circa 1960

Nye Bevan Estate, Glyn Road, Hackney - circa 1960

The second photo is one taken in the early 1960s and shows a block of flats (the Nye Bevan estate) in its place. Again I'm not exactly sure when the Fairfield was finally demolished and the flats built, but it would all have been c.1960.
