1823-24/James Bown, Duke of Wellington, Morning Lane/../../Pigot's Directory
I can confirm that my 3rd great grandfather, James Bown, owned the Wellington pub in Morning lane, until his death in 1846 he then left it to his wife Mary in his will. I have copies of the will. *
I’m unsure when he acquired the pub. In the 1841 census James Bown is listed as an Independant, in Morning lane, aged 70; and Mary Bown is aged 68. They married by banns in 1815.
