South London Press 16 March 1878: Newington Licensing: Henry Jeffrey, the
Castle, Crystal Place Road, East Dulwich, applied for a victualler�s
licence. Mr Oppenheim, who opposed on behalf of the licensed victuallers of
the neighbourhood, contended that the case was exactly the same as when the
licence was refuses by the Confirming Committee, and, subsequently by the
bench. Mr Clarke, in support of the application, contended that the
Confirming Committee had only refused the licence previously because the
time was not then ripe for granting the request of Mr Jeffery; but this
objection was now removed, and he hoped that they would grant his client�s
request. **
