The Gun and Star existed from at least 1808. Middlesex Street is also known as Petticoat Lane; and directories show that it is next to Harrow alley, and exists until at least 1879. (After street renumbering this would be at about 97 Middlesex Street if it still existed).
A useful blog about the early life of the Hales and Nightingale family is here

The Gun and Star's first landlord (that I know of) was William Hales (my ancestor) who was certainly running it in 1792, as it's listed on his children's christening records from that year and daughter's birth record. *
Thomas Nightingale was his relative and took over the pub after William Hale's death in 1800. His death is recorded as September 26th 1800 at St George East, aged 46 years. *
On the first March 1808, Thomas Nightingale receives his Freedom of the City Admission, in the Company of Innholders, for the sum of forty six shillings and eight pence. Near the bottom of the certificate is written "Gun & Star, Petticoat lane".
