E4 Chingford
Station - Chingford and Highams Park (BR Liverpool Street).
Although having its attractions, such as the area around the Church, much of Chingford is suburban sprawl dating from the 1920s and 1930s and encouraged by the railway. Look out for the occasional remains of older hamlets, and also rural parts where the area gives way to Epping Forest in the north. Because of the Forest, this was a popular destination for excursions from the 1860s until this century, when people were able to venture further afield. Most of the pubs date from the twentieth century are further spread out than in most of the districts in this guide.
In the north of the area the Guide covers the Essex hamlet of Sewardstone.
