Elizabeth Jermy’s niece, Mary Ann Jermy met, and in 1895 married Thomas Branch Kerry and by 1897 they were publicans at the Duke of York in East Street, Barking. (It is believed that Mary Ann, like other relatives, came down from Norfolk to help Elizabeth in the Volunteer which may explain how she met Tom Kerry). **

Mary Ann sister, Harriet can be found at the Coopers Arms **

Their brother, Jacob Jermy can be found at the Harrow. **

Thomas Branch Kerry died in 1924 so the publican in the 1933 Kellys Directory is almost certainly his son of the same name. **

My maternal grandfather was Christopher Crawley. They were bombed out of the Nags Head, in Mile End either late 1943 or very early 1944. I think that they were there for most of the war. My grandparents moved in with us in Barking for a short time after the bombing and then became the tenants at the Duke of York in Barking. Sadly my grandfather died shortly afterwards from pneumonia. My grandmother, Mary aka Polly, moved from the Duke of York in the fifties to the Halfway House at Leytonstone and retired from there late 50s / early 60s. ***

Christopher Crawley of 22 East Street Barking Essex died 9 June 1945 at the Oldcgurch Hospital Romford Essex Administration Llandudno 12 March to Mary Ann Crawley widow. Effects £853 13s 6d.
