John Lockie in 1810 describes as :

"Artillery Street, St Johns, Southwark, is near the Eastern end of Tooley street, the first South parallel to St Johns church yard, it is continued by Charles street to Dock head, on the East and by Crucifix lane to Bermondsey street on the West."
