Queens Arms, 38 Albert Gate, Knightsbrige, St Margaret, Westminster SW1

Westminster St Margaret index

This house stood on the north side of Knightsbridge, just east of the barracks, on the corner of Mills’ Buildings. It was built as a private house by Ralph Mills in 1777, and became a pub in the early 1800s. It was rebuilt in 1894 and closed in the early 1930s when it was converted into two shops with offices and flats above. The address was originally 28 High Row, but became 21 High Row West by 1839. Nos. 1 - 16 of High Row West were renamed Albert Terrace in 1843, and the pub joined this sycophantic trend by calling itself 20-21 Albert terrace in 1851. By 1861 it had reverted to 26 High Row, but was back as 21 Albert Terrace in 1871. High Row West and Albert Terrace became Albert Gate in 1873, and the pub was at 38 Albert Gate until 1903, when the address changed for the last time to 108 Knightsbridge.  ***
