At 17 Princes Street in 1856 & earlier.Called the “Duke of Ormond’s Head” in Pigot’s Directory of 1839 and in a newspaper article in January 1840, it had become the “Duke of Ormond” by the 1841 Census. It was on the west side of Princes Street, south of Parker Street, and was demolished between 1901 and 1911, when the Methodist Central Hall was built. *

Hubert McHale was my 2xG-grandfather, listed here in 1869. He was also
present at this address in the 1861 and 1871 censuses. He was also present
in the 1851 census as a licensed victualler at 17 Princes Street (as
compared with 13 Princes Street for the address of the Duke of Ormond). The
name of the pub is not given in the 1851 census, nor on an 1848 birth
certificate for my g-grandmother, Margaret McHale, where the same address,
17 Princes Street, is again given. I suspect that he was at the Duke of
Ormond throughout this period, but that the street numbering was altered
between 1851 and 1861, hence the change from 17 to 13 Princes Street.
***
Hubert died in 1878 at an address in Lambeth. I believe he gave up the
licence at the Duke of Ormond soon after the 1871 census. ***
