Westminster St Margaret pub history index
Later address is at 92 Petty France. This pub was situated alongside a very substantial yard, the Blue Anchor Yard, which had entrances on York Street (next to the pub) and Gardener’s Lane. The yard contained a Brewhouse in 1797 where Thomas Knipe and then Robert Wright were brewers, but I have no evidence it was linked to the pub. The large yard remained until the majority of it, including the Gardener’s Lane entrance, was demolished for the building of St James’ Park Station on the Metropolitan District Railway in 1868. In the period after WWII the pub was known as “Dirty Dick’s”, from the chain which ran it. It survived until 1962. *
