Angel, 23 Great Chapel Street, St Margaret, Westminster

Westminster St Margaret pub history index

Earlier address is at 7 Great Chapel Street. The pub was on the east side of Great Chapel Street, between Dacre Street and Orchard Street, although the 1869 OS map does not mark a PH there. The street was renumbered between 1851 and 1861, causing the address change from No 7 to No 23. The pub closed in 1906.
Mr Watson, who appears in 1841 and again in 1861 is possibly the same man. The age is roughly right, though the birthplace is not. In the 1851 Census, the James Watson born in Darton, Bucks in 1809/10 was publican at the Three Compasses in Lambeth, but his wife was not present on census night, nor were any of his children. *
