I have been researching The Ship Inn, in Millbank. This pub was run by James's Fortey father, John Fortey until his death in 1793 and then by his widow Mary Fortey until at least 1800 when Jeremy Bentham made a compulsory purchase order in relation to a new National penitentiary - Millbank prison. *+
There are several interesting documents that exist with descriptions of The Ship and other pubs around Millbank at that time.
