This house was empty in the 1851 census and was demolished 2 years later under the Westminster Improvement Act of 1845. On 22nd Nov 1853, the solicitor to the Commissioners asked the licensing magistrates to transfer the license, in the name of John Dorcay (the then current licensee of the Red Lion), to the Victoria Hotel on Victoria Street, but they refused on the grounds that Mr Dorcay had already been compensated for the loss of the license, and the new house was a long way from, and of a very different character to the old. However, we find the license of the Victoria Hotel being transferred from Patrick Dorcay to Henry Tyler on 31st Jan 1854, just two months later, so there was something shady going on! The Victoria Hotel cannot be considered as a successor to this house from all the evidence. *
