This house is on the same site as an earlier pub called the Westminster Stores. It was at No 1 Tufton Street before re-numbering. William Sutton was granted a new license for the premises, already a beer-house, in 1859. It stood on the southern corner of Wood Street, directly opposite the Adam and Eve, whose licensee, John Procter, opposed the new license. I do not know whether the transition to the Prince Alfred was a simple name change or a more significant rebuilding, nor can I find when or why it occurred. *
