The birth certificate for my grandfather Charles Williams shows he was born in the Chequers Beer House in 1877. His parents were listed as "beer house keepers" and were George Henry Williams and Sarah Ann Williams (nee Cannon). *

My grandfather, Walter Eric Barnard, who I was informed by my father was born in the Chequers Pub on Tottenham High Road. The birth certificate for my grandfather only states place of birth in 1898 as Edmonton. However, when his father (Alfred Earnest Barnard) was married on 17th December 1893, his address is listed on the certificate as High Road, and his profession as publican.
My grandfather, Walter Eric Barnard, went on to become a professional footballer with Gillingham and Brentford until injury curtailed his career. ***
