Tooting pub index
At Streatham lane in 1861 when it is named the Rose and Crown Beer shop, and John and Mary Booker have raised their first daughter. At Streatham lane in again in both the 1871 and 1881 census. Following renumbering, the address is now given as 158 Tooting Bec Road by 1921 following a road widening scheme in about 1914. By 1939 the address has altered slightly to 140 Tooting Bec Road, ** The pub building in the photo was knocked down and a new one built that is now a Tesco. I was able to link the picture to the same location by the large building in the background with the turret. Looking on street view from the Tesco, the building in the background has the same features as the one in the photo, but not the turret. This was the British Home for the Incurables, a 1912 photo of the same building shows the turret still in place confirming the location. *
