My great great grandfather James Shakespeare Killingback was born here in 1852, his father also James is recorded on his birth certificate as
"publican". He is a Beer Retailer at 48 Allen road in the 1871 census. I have no idea how long the family were associated with the pub
but James S. K. lived at various addresses close by until his death in 1917.

The person you list as the Publican from 1934, ARTHUR SAMUEL LAZARUS, was my
Grandfather and my Mother was actually born in the living accommodation
above the pub. His brother was Albert Langdon; and no doubt his name was on
the licence at times. My Grandfather took over the pub from his Father,
Jacob Lazarus, who died in 1929; and the
following is an update on the years that they were landlords:- ***
From approx 1915 until 1925 or 1926, JACOB LAZARUS was the publican.
From 1925 or 1926 until 1954 ARTHUR SAMUEL LAZARUS was the publican.
During the First World War, one of our own bomb shells went through the roof
of The Shakespeare! ***

As far as I know, The Shakespeare still exists.
