My great grand uncle Charley Carter owned the Pakenham Arms pub. His son
Henry (Harry) later took over. ***
It is believed that my great grandmother (Charley Carter’s brother) Mary Ann
and her husband Alfred Layton also ran a pub (either the White Swan or Black
Swan) which was within walking distance of Stratford in West Ham. ***
