Cock Tavern, 2 St Michael alley, St Michael Cornhill EC3

St Michael Cornhill index

In the 1770-1780 Masonic Lodges listing, the Cock and Lion, St Michaels alley, Cornhill is the meeting place of a masonic Lodge, and apparently constituted in September 8th 1732

This pub was burnt down in a serious fire of 1748 – at the time it was named the Cock & Lion, as it was in 1822 and 1833. ** In the 1843 and 1848 directory it takes the name of the New York Tavern, and in the 1853 license transfer, but it is the Williams Chop House in 1851 & 1861. Again in the 1862 license transfers it is named the New York Coffee house, and reverts to the Cock Tavern by 1869.
