William CHAMBERLAINE found in the 1841 directory is my 3rd great grandfather. I have a baptism record dated December 1827 where he is listed as victualler at the time of his son's birth on "Duke Street". The family is also there in 1832 for the birth of another son, however they aren't there in 1826 for the birth of their daughter. *

My great grandfather, Isaac Matthews, appears in your site as a beer seller,
at 100 East Street, Lambeth, in
1881. On his son Frederick's marriage certificate, in May 1897, he is
described as a "Licensed Victualler", and Frederick's address is given as
"The Star, Morris Street, E1", which suggests that Isaac was the licensee at
that time. ***
