In 1827, this is named the Don Cossack at 38 Norton Folgate; and by 1832 it becomes the Middleton Arms
38 Norton Folgate by 1884 & in 1856, This pub is now demolished. **
Spitalfields index
A listing of historical public houses, Taverns, Inns, Beer Houses and Hotels in Spitalfields, London.
Middleton Arms, 38 Norton Folgate, Spitalfields - circa 1900 to 1912
No.35-36 Norton Folgate was Central Rubber and Cycle
Accessories , and then occupied by Fox & Co., wholesale clothiers (1917).
No. 37 Norton Folgate was the butchers of Baker, Joseph & Sons (from at
least 1901 - at least 1911). In 1917, occupied by Fox & Co., wholesale
clothiers. No. 38 Norton Folgate was the Middleton Arms.
The building which housed numbers 35,36 and 37 Norton Folgate were still
there in 1973 but had gone by 1998. My interest is in No. 37, as the Baker
family were my descendent. The photo is primarily of the Butcher shop, but
the pub and cycle company are clearly visible. I am guessing the photo was
taken about 1900-1912, certainly prior to World War 1. *
