From research into my wife’s family tree I can tell you that in 1785 the
Licensee of the Crown, in Grey Eagle Street was Martha Holdom (source: the
Register of Innkeepers 1785 held in the London Metropolitan Archives). She
was still the owner of the Crown at her death in 1799 (as can be seen from
her will in the Canterbury Probate in the National Archives).
Her husband Thomas had died in 1784 and it is probable that he held the
Licence at his death. Neither held the licence in the previous Register of
1777.
The register after 1799 lists one Aaron Chorley as Licensee (I didn’t note
the date as the pub had obviously passed from the Holdom family).
