Stephen Foulsham  (my 4x great grandfather)  who ran the Dyers Arms in Brick Lane in 1841 was born on 26 Oct 1784 in Wymondham in Norfolk. On the 1851 census he's still living in Brick Lane at no. 188, but has gone back to his original profession of 'Dyer' - thus the pub's name. On this census he says he's from Windham in Norfolk (which is how Wymondham is pronounced). He ran the Goat pub in Wymondham in 1822. He, and his son, (also called Stephen) gave evidence in a court case in London, where he was the publican of the Dyer's Arms in 1834, so he'd moved sometime between 1822 and 1844 to Brick Lane. His wife, Elizabeth Foulsham (his second cousin also from Wymondham) died in 1853, and he remarried in 1854 to Elizabeth Weight. On the marriage licence he gave his father's name as James Foulsham. The only Stephen Foulsham born to James Foulsham in Wymondham, was Stephen born on 27 Oct 1784. On each of the censuses he gives a different age for himself, sometimes older than he was and sometimes younger... He died on 22 Nov 1869 whilst living at 1 Little George Street, Bethnal Green.  ***
