Crown, 60 Blackman Street, Southwark St George Martyr

Southwark St George Martyr index

This is presumably the New Crown mentioned in the 1825 Victuallers Recognizance. The New Crown is also the name of the pub in an 1807 Sun Fire Office insurance record listed as 70 Blackman Street, prior to street renumbering (Horwood's 1799 map of London shows 70 Blackman Street approximately where 60 Blackman Street is by the 1839 Directory *). The pub at 60 Blackman Street is also named as the Old Crown in an 1837 Sun Fire Office Insurance record, and is the Crown Inn earlier still, shown on Rocque's 1746 map of London as being slightly north, nearer the intersection with Great Suffolk Street (called Dirty Lane on Rocque's map). *
