This pub was present by 1750. The Unicorn, Holywell street in 1848 license transfer. An 1873 photograph of the Unicorn exists at the Hackney Archive site; it is situated at the corner of Shoreditch High Street and Commercial Street with the drinking fountain in the foreground.  It existed in the current building at least as early as 1864, but is long closed. The premises are today in use as a telephone showroom (2006). **
