A pub called the Red Lion has existed in this vicinity since at least 1730. The earlier address is at Blomfield crescent, Harrow road. A Courage pub, this was situated on the south side of Harrow Road at the east junction with Westbourne Bridge. It was standing by 1962 but was presumably demolished as part of the A40 (M) Westway road project which opened on 12th October 1967. The annotated photo shows the broad location and massing of the pub looking east towards Westbourne Bridge. ***

Flowers v Windham - Mrs Windham and the Law of Coverture.
The action was brought by Mr Henry William Flowers, proprietor of the Red Lion Tavern, Harrow road, to recover from Mrs Agnes Windham, of 3A Westbourne terrace, Paddington, the sum of 20 pounds 14 shillings, the balance of an account delivered.
One Curious item in the bill was 7 pounds and 8 shillings for 587 pints of ale supplied to 587 men employed at the Great Western Railway Terminus, at Paddington, on the day Mrs Windham gave birth to a son and heir, and this was done at the express order of Mrs Windham, given some days previously. Another item was for a large quantity of stout, supplied at defendants request at the birth of the baby alluded to.
It appeared from the evidence that the plaintiff supplied defendant with wines, spirits, and beer to the amount of 80 poubds, and since then she had paid him nearly 60 pounds.
The defence was a plea of coverture, which was put in, and it stated that defendant was married to Mr Windham in 1859, and that Mr Windham died in February 1866.
Mr Scaife urged the fact that in 1864 defendant was separated from her husband.
Mr Lewis called Miss Rogers (defendants sister) and other evidence, whose testimony went to show that in 1864 Mr Windham occasionally visited his wife, and that he had borrowed money from the plaintiff the same year. His Honour said that he thought there was sufficient assets from Mr Windhams estate to pay all creditors; at all events, he thought the plea must prevail.
